The TWEED Fractured Classicks Series: Celebrating time-honored works— with a twist or on the rocks. The Series is a renegade showcase offering a fresh look at staples of American stage and screen. Irreverent casting (often cross-gendered) and frequent “one-night-only” surprise-scheduling add to the excitement, delirium and cult status of these popular and startling productions. Our roster of stars has included drag legend Charles Busch, Amy Sedaris, Lisa Kron, Justin Vivian Bond, Joey Arias, Varla Jean Merman, Tony Award winners Daisy Eagan and Jeff Whitty. Our staged reading of The Women at Town Hall was a particularly notorious production (our version was called Jungle Red). This was the first-ever production to blatantly fly in the face of the Claire Booth Luce Estate and cast men in the lead parts— despite specific instructions not to. Subsequently, TWEED presented CAGED at Town Hall starring Lily Tomlin, Isabella Rossellini, Joan Rivers, Jackie Hoffman, Lypsinka and others.
