Marja Samsom - Come Miss Bhave With Me
Marja Samsom is a Dutch conceptual performance artist and filmmaker who has been living and working in New York City since 1980. She was connected to the early conceptual art movement in Amsterdam, where she began her career making Super-8 movies and creating Polaroids, large printed cibachrome stills, and live performances. In 1985, she established her salon in the East Village, which started as an underground weekly dinner venue and later became The Kitchen Club. In 1990, The Kitchen Club moved to Nolita and evolved into a thriving international gathering place for local artists and people active in the cultural scene. Guests included Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, Malcolm McLaren, Jonas Mekas, Zaha Hadid, Catherine Deneuve, and Björk. Samsom also gained recognition as an accomplished and inventive chef ("The Dumpling Diva"), working with European and Japanese cuisine as Flavor DJ inventing cutting edge dishes.
In her work as an undercover artist, Samsom often toys with humor and alter-egos: the housewife, pinup girl, Miss Kerr, Miss Behave, Madame Hulot en Vacances. Samsom's performative and film work has been presented by De Appel, The Clocktower, Franklin Furnace, and Participant Inc, and featured in Artforum, The New York Times and Vogue.

Samsom will be showing her video “Marja at Franklin Furnace” followed by three performance pieces, interspersed with 2 World Premier Super* films "Birthday Suit” and “Screen test"
